Milan Bednar

May 7, 1943 - February 5, 2010

Milan (Bud) Bednar, 66, passed away peacefully from this life to his eternal Father in heaven Feb 5, 2010 at 6:00 a.m. in his home surrounded by his wife, sons, and close friends. We would like to thank everyone for their support and prayers throughout his struggle with ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease.
He was born May 7, 1943 in Mahoning Township, PA to Alexander and Anna Bednar and was the youngest of five children. Bud grew up in Pennsylvania and worked hard on the family farm. He attended Penn State University for two years after graduating from Lehighton High School, and received an associate degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He then served in the U.S. Air Force at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, Montana for four years where he was honorably discharged in December, 1967.

He married Yvonne (Bonnie) C. Ravet, his soul mate, on December 16, 1967 in Bozeman, Montana. They enjoyed 42 years of marriage. He graduated from Cal-State Hayward and received his B.S. in Business Administration in June, 1976. They lived in Livermore, CA for the first eight years of their marriage where they had two children. He worked as a Customer Engineer for Control Data Corporation until 1978; he moved to Idaho Falls in 1976 and worked at the INEL for 26 years until he retired in 2005.

Bud loved the outdoors, being with his family and playing cards. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and fixing things around the house. One of the proudest day’s of his life was when he shot a 7-point bull elk in 1978; the rack almost made it into the Boone & Crockett record books. He excelled at everything he did and was known for his quality work. He lived life to the fullest and was always young at heart.

His impact on the community will be felt by the Idaho Falls Catholic Community as well as his contributions to the Boy Scouts of America, soccer coach, and the many footprints he left as a 33-year resident of Idaho Falls. He was humble, kind, and lifted those up around him. His life was defined by serving others and he left a legacy that will be felt by everyone whose life he touched.

Milan is survived by his wife, Yvonne Bednar, two sons: Darren Milan (Jennifer) Bednar of Omaha, NE & Brian John (Linda) Bednar of Sparks, NV, and six grandchildren. He is survived by two brothers: Paul of Endicott, NY and John (Rachel) Bednar of Lehighton, PA and one sister, Amelia (Millie) DeBellis of Allentown, PA as well as many nieces and nephews. His parents and his brother, Alex preceded him in death.

A rosary in Bud’s honor will be held on Monday, February 8th @ 7:30 p.m. at Buck-Miller-Hann funeral home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls. A funeral mass in celebration of his life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9th, at Holy Rosary Church, corner of 9th and Lee in Idaho Falls, with Father Jairo Restredo, celebrant. Burial will be at the Ammon cemetery immediately following the service. Military graveside rites are under the direction of the Bonneville County Veterans Team. Online condolences for the family may be left at www.buckmillerhann.com.
