Florene Ahlman

Florene Albers Ahlman, 92, a life time resident of Idaho Falls passed away on March 6th, 2010 at Lily & Syringa Care Center. Hospice provided additional care. She was born Dec. 11, 1917. The second oldest daughter of Richard Herman Albers and Louella Viola Hanni Albers. She was from a family of eleven children and helped raise and provide for the four younger sisters. She attended Eastside School in Idaho Falls, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School where she met her life long sweetheart, Henning L. Ahlman. They were married on July 20, 1937.

Prior to WWII they lived in Chicago for a short period of time. Henning died of a heart attack in 1986, they spent 50+ years together as a family, fishing, camping, skiing, and bowling. They also enjoyed hiking in the White Clouds primitive mountains. She retired from the downtown Bon Marche in 1983, prior to the Bon; she worked at Woolworth’s for 20 plus years as a floor walker before Woolworths closed down.

Her first job was at the “Den” selling sodas, which was located next door to the old Rio Theater on Broadway. She made 25 cents an hour. She was a member of the Hi-Lo Pinochle club for 57 years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where in her earlier years she taught Sunday school, and later a member of the Lutheran Braille group printing Braille Scripture, which was sent all over the world.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah (Paul) Chaffee and a son, Richard Ahlman all of Idaho Falls; five sisters, Shirley (John) Peterson of Idaho Falls; Jean DeCorcia of Sussex, New Jersey; Louise (Darwin) Goldsberry of Salt Lake City, Utah; Darlene (Jack) Lindsey of Bend, Oregon; and Barbara Wells of Shelley; two granddaughters Carly Chaffee and Alexis (Omar) Rodriguez of Idaho Falls; a great grandson, Gabriel Rodriquez of Idaho Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband Henning, her parents, one sister, Virginia, and four brothers, Richard, Don, Wallace and Harry.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the St. John Lutheran Church, 290 7th Street in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Jerry Reinke, officiating. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls and at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donation be given to the St. John Lutheran Church in memory of Florene.
